Black Stars: Gov’t directs GFA to “review the work and capacity” of Milovan Rajevac

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been directed to review the work of the head coach for the senior national team Milovan Rajevac.

This was after the meeting between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the GFA on Friday, January 21.

The “emergency meeting” was necessitated by the Black Stars’ abysmal performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Cameroon.

A statement signed by sector minister Mustapha Ussif following the crunch meeting with officials of the Ghana Football Association said “the people of Ghana have lost confidence in the capacity of the current technical team of the Black Stars to deliver success” and asked “the GFA to review the work and capacity of the Black Stars’ technical team, led by the head coach, Milovan Rajevac.”

It added: “The Ministry assures the General Public that it will always act in the best interest of the country and with the ultimate goal of improving the performance and competitiveness of our national teams.”

Ghana exited the 33rd edition of the tournament at the group phase for the first time in 16 years after an embarrassing 3-2 defeat to Comoros.

The four-time African champions, on a 40-year Afcon trophy drought, finished bottom of Group C after also losing 1-0 to Morocco and drawing 1-1 against Gabon in their first two games, bowing out of the tournament without a win.

Milovan Rajevac took over the Black Stars job for a second time in September 2021 on a $30,000 monthly salary funded by the Sports Ministry.
