The 2021/22 Women’s Premier League (WPL) enters match-day seven over the weekend starting Friday, January 28 to Monday, January 31.

Pearl Pia Ladies took a big leap to the summit of the standings last weekend. They are followed closely by last season’s zonal winners Ampem Darkoa Ladies with just a point separating them.

There are five teams capable of leaping to the top of the log after match-day seven.

Pearl Pia Ladies vs Northern Ladies

We begin our preview with league leaders Pearl Pia Ladies playing as host to bottom-placed Northern Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Friday. Kickoff is 3 pm.

Pearl Pia will welcome first-choice goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan and defenders Zuleiha Fuseini and Ayisha Yakubu for this game after stints with the Black Princesses.

Northern Ladies remain the only side without a win after six games; shared the points on three occasions and lost the remaining three games.

Pearl Pia Ladies, the most potent attacking side so far in the league will seek to maintain the fine start to the season especially against a struggling Northern Ladies that have averaged at least a goal conceded in each of the six games played.

It is a game against the top-ranked team in the zone against the bottom-placed team.

FC Savannah Ladies vs Fabulous Ladies

Next will be FC Savannah against Fabulous Ladies FC; the latter makes a trip to Tamale at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Saturday.

FC Savannah after the match week one victory has failed to win any of their preceding five(drawn three games and lost two) games heading into this encounter. On the other hand, Fabulous Ladies’ Princess Owusu scored twice to help her side beat zonal champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies 2–1 the last time out.

Both teams have conceded nine goals in the league – FC Savannah has scored eight goals, a goal better than Fabulous Ladies. Fifth-placed Fabulous Ladies is holding a four-point lead against 8th placed FC Savannah that has six points after six games.

It is a fixture between two of the worst defensive setups in the league after match-day six – Prisons Ladies lead the park with 12 goals against Kumasi Sports Academy’s 10 goals conceded.

Prison’s Ladies has nine goals against KUSA’s seven goals in six games.

Last season’s Northern Zone Runners Up, Prisons Ladies has lost three games, drew one game and won a game against Kumasi Sports Academy’s three defeats, two draws and one win.

Ashtown Ladies vs Dreamz Ladies FC

It is a top-four clash between Ashtown Ladies and Dreamz Ladies FC at the Bantama AstroTurf on Saturday at 3 pm.

There’s little to separate the two teams occupying the 3rd and 4th positions on the log; both teams are on ten points each with zero goal difference after match-day six.

Dreamz Ladies’ Stella Nyamekye who’s the leading top scorer with five goals failed to hit the target as her side lost 2–3 to Pearl Pia Ladies. Nyamekye will be one to look out for in the encounter.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies vs Supreme Ladies

We end our preview of this weekend’s games with a fixture between Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Supreme Ladies at the Ohene Ameyaw Park, Techiman on Saturday at exactly 3 pm.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies should be strong enough with the return of Abena Anoma Opoku and Anesthesia Achiaa from their duties with Black Princesses.

The reigning zonal champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies lost its second game of the campaign in a 3–2 defeat to Fabulous Ladies and will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when Supreme Ladies visits over the weekend.
