U-20 WWCQ: Black Princesses pip Zambia, advance to face Uganda

The Black Princesses of Ghana have advanced to the fourth and penultimate round of the African qualifiers to the 2022 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup after recording a slim win against Zambia.

Coach Ben Fokuo’s side – after drawing 0-0 in the first leg at Nkoloma Stadium, Lusaka two weeks ago – completed the job at home by beating the Young Copper Queens 1-0 at Cape Coast Sports Stadium Saturday afternoon.

It was captain Evelyn Badu who scored the deciding goal from close range in the 35th minute.

Ghana could have doubled the lead in the 65th minute but Rahama Jafar saw her strike hit the post.

Zambia’s biggest chance to level the scores came through in the 78th minute but goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan was on hand to thwart the visitors’ effort.

The 1-0 win means the chase for a record sixth successive U-20 Women’s World Cup appearance for the Princesses is much on course. Ghana will now square up with Uganda who eliminated South Africa on Friday in the next stage.
