WAFA sink Olympics with late Torsutsey penalty

WAFA SC needed a stoppage-time penalty to overcome Great Olympics 1-0 in their 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day five clash Saturday afternoon.

After 90 minutes in Sogakope, where the two sides could not be separated, Marvin Owusu won the Academy Boys a penalty some five minutes after coming off the bench.

The young striker, who had replaced Faad Sana, was brought down in an awkward challenge by Olympics right-back Phillip Nii Kojo Sackey and referee Bashiru Dauda did not hesitate in pointing to the spot.

Striker Justus Torsutsey stepped up and fired home what was practically the last kick of the game. 1-0.

WAFA thus managed to end a run without a win in their fifth game and eased pressure on new Spanish trainer Guillermo Hamdan Zaragoza.

While the 1-0 marked WAFA’s first win, it was also a painful first defeat for visiting Olympics this league campaign.

WAFA SC are guaranteed a climb out of the relegation zone by the end of the match-day five round of games on Sunday as they now tally five points, three less than the Dade Boys.

Captain for WAFA, Konadu Yiadom, was adjudged NASCO man-of-the-match.
