New boys Accra Lions beat Bechem 2-1 for first win

Accra Lions recorded their first three points by easing to a 2-1 win over Bechem United in a 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day four fixture Saturday afternoon.

On the way to break a four-game duck, the debutants got their goals in the first half at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Right-back Christopher Acheampong put Lions ahead after 23 minutes.

Five minutes on, the hosts were then awarded a penalty won by Rauf Salifu and the striker stood up to convert for his third goal of the campaign.

Bechem United returned strongly in the second half and got a goal back through an Augustine Okrah header from a corner kick right on the hour mark.

But that could only stand as a consolation for the Hunters.

Christopher Acheampong, the scorer of the opening goal, won the NASCO man-of-the-match.

The 2-1 victory sees Accra Lions move to four points after four games. They next visit fellow GPL debutants Bibiani GoldStars at Dun’s Park.

Bechem United, who are stuck on six points, also host Dreams FC on match-day five.
