Karela recover to down Berekum Chelsea 2-1 at Aiyinase

Karela United claimed a 2-1 win on match-day three to compound Berekum Chelsea’s poor start to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The Bibires are still winless after three games, losing to GoldStars and a goalless draw at home against Eleven Wonders on match-week two.

It was Berekum Chelsea who took the lead at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park through Bright Amponsah in the 7th minute after starting the game in a defensive shape while Karela attacked.

The hosts regrouped and came in stronger, troubling Blues goalkeeper Benjamin Yeboah on several occasions.

They got their equalizer in the 31st minute through Umar Basiru’s penalty kick and no goals were recorded again till half-time.

The Pride and Passion returned from the break with the same pressure they gave Chelsea in the closing stages of the first half and they had found the lead.

Darlington Gyan Fosu scored what turned the match-winner for Karela in the 50th minute. He went on to win the NASCO man-of-the-match award.

Berekum Chelsea will switch focus to host King Faisal at Golden City Park on match-day four. Karela United visit Medeama SC.
