‘Kamal Sowah felt he was not ready for Black Stars in the past’ – Rajevac

The Ghana boss is hoping to convince the Belgium-based forward to start playing international football.

Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac says enterprising youngster Kamal Sowah is a player he is seriously considering for the future.

The Club Brugge forward is yet to represent his country of birth despite several attempts to get him to do so.

Recent past Black Stars coach CK Akonnor handed Sowah invitations for the ongoing 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers earlier this year but twice the 21-year-old failed to turn up.

Reasons for Sowah’s no-show have remained under wraps and his absence stretched to the era of Rajevac, the Serbian tactician who made a return to the Black Stars job in October.

After failing to name the former Right To Dream Academy prodigy who left Leicester City permanently last summer in his second call-up for the World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa, the 67-year-old conceded the need to engage the player about his availability.

Through his interpreter, Rajevac said Thursday: “Of course we’re monitoring his [Kamal Sowah] situation.

“We know that in the past, he felt it was not the right time for him.

“He wanted to establish himself after moving from Leicester City to Club Brugge.

“Yesterday, he entered the match against Manchester City [in the Uefa Champions League] as a substitute, so we’re in touch.

“After these matches [November qualifiers], of course, the plan is to go and visit him, talk to him and check his availability for the next matches because he is a wonderful prospect and definitely a player I am thinking about seriously for the future.”
