Jamal Arago: Liberia name Ghana-born in squad

Liberia coach, Peter Butler has named Ghana-born defender Jamal Arago in his 22-man squad for their final two 2022 World Cup qualifying games against Nigeria and Central African Republic (CAR).

Arago featured for Ghana’s U20 during the qualifying for the 2013 Africa Youth Championship but didn’t make into the final squad due to injury.

The 28-year-old Sabail FK player qualifies to play for Liberia through his grandmother.

There are also two debutants in Butler’s side; Watanga FC goalkeeper Derrick Julu and defender Mark Pabai of PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands.

Pabai has finally accepted to play for Liberia, having first been invited for the back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Chad in October 2019.

The 21-year-old moved to the Netherlands with his family when was six years old.

Liberia will take on Nigeria on 13 November and CAR on 16 November, all at the Stade Ibn Batouta in Tangiers, Morocco.

Liberia is bottom of Group C with 3 points after their first 4 games.
