Abagna brace powers RTU past WAFA to first win

A David Abagna double spared Real Tamale United (RTU) to their first three points of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The returnees picked a 2-0 victory over WAFA in the GPL match-day three clash with goals from either half.

The win sends “The Pride of the North” to 10th on the league table with four points, while WAFA – who held Hearts of Oak to a 1-1 draw last weekend – are still without a win.

Off-season signing Abagna scored the opener just 12 minutes into the game to put his side ahead for the first time this season.

The former AshantiGold man’s second of the game came 11 minutes to the end of the 90 when he scored from long range and captained Real Tamale United to victory.

David Abagna is now the leading scorer of the GPL with five goals, scoring in all three games of the season so far.

Real Tamale United will play as guests to Aduana Stars on match-day 4 while WAFA – who suffered their second defeat of the season – will host Legon Cities.
