Skyy FC beat Tema Youth in penalty shootout to win maiden DOL Super Cup

Skyy FC became champions of the maiden Division One League (DOL) Super Cup after keeping their nerve from the penalty spot to edge Tema Youth 7-6 in a shootout following a tight 1-1 draw after extra time at the Madina AstroTurf Saturday night.

Tied 6-6, Victor Eghan Junior coolly rolled the winning kick past Tema Youth keeper Franklyn Yamoah after Reginald Lartey had blown his effort over the bar.

Skyy took the lead through a 15th-minute header from striker Ebenezer Mamatah, perfectly feeding on a sweet cross from the left by Emmanuel Eshun.

Emmanuel Owusu – who will later miss a decisive kick in the shootout – levelled for the Harbour Warriors with the last effort in the first half, connecting to a Jeremiah Arkorful free-kick from the halfway line with a header.

The stoppage-time equalizer was Owusu’s fourth goal of the tournament.

Both sides threatened to snatch the winning goal in the second half and in extra time but neither could find a breakthrough.

Skyy eventually finished 7-6 winners and take the championship trophy to Daboase with a GH¢15,000 cash reward in addition to their gold medals.

Placing second came with silver medals and a GH¢8,000 prize for Tema Youth.

Tema Youth’s Emmanuel Owusu top-scored with four goals

Not only that, their 18-year-old star boy, Emmanuel Owusu was crowned player of the tournament on top of winning the golden boot with four goals.
