An Osuman Kassim own-goal handed Skyy FC a place in the final of the maiden Division One League (DOL) Super Cup as they pipped Accra Lions 1-0 after extra time Wednesday evening.
The team from Daboase will battle for the trophy in Saturday’s grand finale with Tema Youth, a side they drew 1-1 with in their last group game.
Accra Lions were the heavy favourites entering the second semifinal at the Madina AstroTurf. They slightly dominated a tight 90-minute action which produced no goal.
Heading into extra time, fine margins always looked destined to break up the scoreless gridlock in the too-close-to-call battle.
And a free-kick won and taken by left-back Isaac Afful changed the match 9 minutes into the first half of extra time. Skyy FC capitalized and took the lead.
The set-piece had the ball served into the box from the left with Baba Musah Hamadu having his header from close range blocked by the Lions keeper but centre-back Osuman Kassim found himself at the wrong spot as the save awkwardly came off him in a scramble and back into his own net. 1-0 Skyy.
Accra Lions had 21 minutes left in extra time but just could not deliver an equalizer. They will settle for a third-place battle against FC Smaartext at 9 am on Saturday, October 23.
The grand finale between Tema Youth and Skyy FC is scheduled to kick off later at 15:00 GMT.
