A stunning 10-man Berekum Arsenal win over Accra Lions and a subsequent stalemate between Real Tamale United (RTU) and FC Samartex 1996 Saturday has thrown Group B of the Division One League (DOL) Super Cup wide open.
The Gunners recovered from their opening day defeat to RTU to beat Lions 3-1 at the Madina AstroTurf.
Ebenezer Aboagye netted the opener in the 40th minute but Shawkan Mohammed came off the bench in a halftime substitution to level the scores two minutes after restart.
Richard Mahama got the lead back with a close-range finish in the 62nd minute.
On 77 minutes, Berekum Arsenal were reduced to 10 men following a red card to goalkeeper Emmanuel Adu for dangerous play.
Aboagye registered his brace 8 minutes from time to ensure 10-man Arsenal win the game 3-1.
Later in the afternoon, Real Tamale United and FC Samartex 1996 share the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
The Pride of the North drew first blood in the 14th minute through Stephen Dankwah Badu.
But Emmanuel Adu Siaw planted home a brilliant free-kick to level matters for Samartex just before the half-hour mark. And that was all the game could produce in terms of goals.
The win takes Arsenal to the second spot in the Group B standings with three points and a win against Samartex 1996 will see them through to the semi-final.
The results from the second batch of games in Group B see Real Tamale United lead with 4 points, followed by Berekum Arsenal and Accra Lions who both tally on three points each. Samartex are on one point.
Group B’s final games come off at 14:00 GMT Monday afternoon – RTU vs Accra Lions as well as FC Samartex vs Berekum Arsenal will kick off simultaneously at McDan La Town Park and the Madina AstroTurf respectively.
The top two teams advance to the semifinals.
