Amankona to Kotoko agreement finally complete, $25k fee to be paid in three tranches
Paperworks to be finalized before October 9 transfer deadline.
Wing-forward Stephen Amankona is finally joining Asante Kotoko after weeks of protracted negotiations.
An agreement over a $25,000 (appx. GH¢150,000) transfer fee to be paid in three instalments – on October 11, February 5 and June 5, 2022, was eventually sealed between the Porcupine Warriors and Berekum Chelsea Wednesday night, Footy-Ghana.com has confirmed.
The deal appeared to be virtually off in the past fortnight when Kotoko suddenly dragged feat over a cut-price $35,000 demand from the Bibires.
Kotoko, at this stage, were comfortable to part with $10,000 less in exchange for the economic rights of Amankona.
But negotiations resumed following the intervention of club great and ex-Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah.
Both parties also finally settled on a 30% cut as onward share to Berekum Chelsea in the event of a future sale of the player.
The 21-year-old has already sealed personal terms for a three-year contract with Kotoko.
The transfer, at the time of this report, is subject to the completion of all paperwork between the two clubs before the 2021/22 season’s October 9 deadline day.
Currently in Berekum, the player will be setting off to Accra in order to join his new teammates by the weekend at their Dubai pre-season training camp.
Stephen Amankona has been the star man for Berekum Chelsea over the past three years. He scored 11 goals and provided 5 assists in 28 appearances in the 2020/21 GPL.
Amankona is seen as a direct replacement for Emmanuel Gyamfi who was released by Kotoko days ago.
