2022 WCQ: Djiku cops one-match ban, ruled out of Ethiopia vs Ghana

Defender Alexander Djiku has been ruled out of Ghana’s next game in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers due to yellow card accumulation.

The centre-back picked up a booking in both games when the Black Stars beat Zimbabwe back-to-back in the October fixtures for Group G.

Ghana complete the group stage qualifying phase against Ethiopia and leaders South Africa next month.

Djiku is thus suspended for the Ethiopia game – an away match on November 11 but will be eligible for the final game at home to the Bafana Bafana three days later.

With this development, it is unknown if coach Milovan Rajevac will include the RC Strasbourg stalwart when he announces his squad in about three weeks’ time.

Djiku, meanwhile, pulled out injured in the second half of the 1-0 win against Zimbabwe in Harare on Tuesday.

The Black Stars are currently second in Group G of the African qualifiers with 9 points from 4 matches. Only the top team advances to the final play-offs stage for a ticket to Qatar 2022.
