Stephen Amankona: Kotoko reach deal to sign attacker for $35,000

Berekum Chelsea star man, Stephen Amankona is heading to Asante Kotoko ahead of the 2021/22 football season.

Footy-Ghana.com understands that an agreement over a $35,000 transfer fee has been struck between the two clubs, 30% less than the initial price quoted by the Bibires.

Our sources further indicate that the two clubs have already settled on a payment plan and the final bit of the negotiations is a settlement on the cedi-to-dollar rate to be applied since Kotoko will be paying in Ghana cedis.

The winger – who scored 11 goals and provided 5 assists in 28 appearances in the 2020/21 GPL – has agreed on personal terms with Kotoko and is awaiting the go-ahead to undergo his medical.

For the Porcupines, the inclusion of Amankona to their set-up further strengthens their attacking lines which have been boosted by the inclusion of Inter Allies midfielder Richmond Lomotey. The club, in the past week, also announced signing centre-back Maxwell Agyemang from Mighty Royals.

The exciting bit of the transfer is Amankona’s age; 21 years.

He’s young enough and that’s important in the long-term plan for the Reds in local and continental competitions.

Asante Kotoko failed to win the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League and will be poised to wrestle the trophy from champions Hearts of Oak this season.
