Division Two Middle League: Volta Rangers ready for maiden campaign

Volta Rangers are wrapping up their preparations for the Volta Region Division Two Middle League campaign slated for the Ho Sports Stadium from Monday, September 6 after a fairytale maiden appearance in the Ghanaian third tier.

The Ho-based club known as the “club of the people ” went unbeaten in the entire league and sub middle campaigns defeating more fancied teams including former Division One side Home Stars FC and previous FA Cup winners Voradep.

The icing on the cake after their unbeaten run as first-timers will be a qualification to the national Division One league but the club’s focus is putting in a spirited performance in all matches that will showcase a brand of football associated with the Volta Region according to directors of the club.

Jonathan Ahiakpor, a director of the club stated: “we had a very good first season and already the supporters in the Volta Region are happy with us. We want to represent this region at any level and our focus is always to play very well in all matches for us to make progress and also win over the fans.”

The soft-spoken administrator remains hopeful his team has the quality to qualify from the region and also gave hints of the club’s ambition to become ambassadors of the region in the Division One League if they manage to qualify.

“Rangers did so well playing in the Division Two League and the sub middle league and now we have a good opportunity to attempt qualification to the Division One League in our first season, which is very great for us because we have so much potential in the team. If we manage to clinch the spot, our team will play for the fans in the region and will represent them graciously.”

The Volta Rangers are paired in the “group of death” with Akatsi All-Stars, Roberto FC and Yadzo Oti Warriors.

They will play their first game against Roberto FC on Monday, September 6 at 3 pm.
