Jonah Osabutey becomes 4th Ghanaian to sign for KV Kortrijk

Belgian Jupiler Pro League side, KV Kortrijk has announced a deadline day signing of Ghana forward Jonah Osabutey.

The 22-year-old joins permanently on a two-year contract plus an option of a further two years.

Osabutey had been on the books of German club Werder Bremen since January 2017 when he arrived from Ghanaian side Tema Youth FC.

He is not new to Belgian football, having previously enjoyed loan stints at Royal Excel Mouscron where he was adjudged player of the year after scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists in 22 matches in the 2019/20 campaign.

Just last season, the former Ghana U-17 and U-20 striker was on another loan at OH Leuven where an injury prevented him from living up to expectations. He was operated on and is at the end of rehabilitation and can build on a new start with KV Kortrijk.

Jonah Oasbutey is a forward who can play in multiple systems.

“He fits well in a 4-4-2 but can also handle other systems.

“He has good running lines, bounces well and has enormous power when losing the ball,” said sporting director Rik Foulon.

Jonah Osabutey becomes the fourth Ghanaian to ever be signed by KV Kortrijk.

KV Kortrijk once had Bennard Kumordzi and Asiedu Attobrah and now Osabutey joins compatriot and winger Eric Ocansey who has been at the club since summer 2019.

Osabutey will wear shirt number 54.
