Legon Cities, Bechem both finish with 10 men in 1-1 draw

Legon Cities and Bechem United played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw for the second time in the ongoing 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Saturday night.

An end-to-end battle that saw both teams finish with 10 men each after bad-tempered clashes late in the match-day 32 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Royals started well and deservedly shot themselves in front courtesy a world-class goal from Jonah Attuquaye in the 10th minute.

The winger picked a long pass from Nasiru Moro, controlled the ball graciously with his chest, turned before hitting the ball with precision, giving the Bechem United goalkeeper no chance.

Bechem found their way back with the equalizer just on the hour mark.

A perfectly-lofted free-kick into the box from experienced left-back Emmanuel Asante was beautifully headed home by Emmanuel Annor. 1-1 for the Hunters.

In the 6th minute of stoppage time, Bechem’s goalscorer Annor got sent off after receiving a second yellow card for time-wasting.

Desperate to see his side chase the winner, captain Maxwell Ampadu, unhappy with Annor’s antics, went to push the latter off the field – an action which attracted the fury of the centre referee to also give the Legon Cities man his marching orders.

The game eventually ended 1-1 with Bechem United’s Boubacar Sidiki Boumbia winning the NASCO man-of-the-match award.

Both Legon Cities and Bechem United tie on 39 points but are separated by goal difference, having drawn by the same scoreline when they first met on match-day 15.
