A Kwasi Donsu penalty against Berekum Chelsea gave Medeama SC a winning end to a disappointing 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) campaign.
Tagged one of the strong title favourites, the Mauve and Yellows fell off the race midway into the second round of the season but managed to close the chapter with a 1-0 victory over the Bibires at Akoon Park Sunday afternoon.
The game looked like ending in a barren draw before Medeama were handed a penalty after experienced attacker Theophilus Anobaah was adjudged to have been fouled in the box.
The penalty decision somehow came late as Berekum Chelsea had already initiated an attack before referee Mohammed Misbaou stopped play and pointed to the spot.
Midfielder Kwasi Donsu stepped up and slotted past goalkeeper Ernest Sowah with four minutes remaining.
The win was not enough for Medeama to finish in the top four as Aduana also won against Karela to occupy the last spot.
Medeama, thus, completed the 2020/21 GPL in position 5 with 54 points. Berekum Chelsea placed 10th after amassing 43 points from 34 games.
