Kotoko’s Gyamfi handed one-match ban for stamping on opponent

Asante Kotoko winger Emmanuel Gyamfi is to serve a one-match ban while paying GH¢1,000 in fines, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has decided.

The 26-year-old was charged for a breach of Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.

This was after he was captured on camera stamping on striker Andy Okpe during a Ghana Premier League match against Inter Allies on June 14 – an action the GFA “found improper and likely to bring the game into disrepute.”

In a hearing held via zoom last week, Gyamfi pleaded guilty with an explanation, saying what he did was reactionary.

Delivering its decision, the Disciplinary Committee found the player guilty of the charge.

“A fine of GH¢1,000 is hereby imposed on Emmanuel Gyamfi in accordance with Article 6.1(c) of the GFA Disciplinary Code.

“That Emmanuel Gyamfi is hereby handed a one-match ban in accordance with Article 12(b) of the GFA Disciplinary Code.

“Emmanuel Gyamfi is warned that any future misconduct shall receive a more severe punishment,” the ruling stated.

This means Gyamfi would be forced to sit out of Asante Kotoko’s MTN FA Cup Round of 16 home game with Asokwa Deportivo later this afternoon.
