Infantino congratulates Hearts of Oak for 21st GPL title

Fifa president Gianni Infantino has offered his congratulations to Hearts of Oak after being crowned champions of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season, their 21st time.

A 1-0 defeat to WAFA SC in their final game of the campaign Saturday did no harm to the Phobians who placed their hands on the new league trophy for the first time since its introduction in 2016.

The Italian-made trophy – with a property of 24 carat of brass with a height of 67cm in height and 40cm in width – came with 40 gold medals and a GH¢250,000 prize money.

In a letter to GFA president Kurt Okraku, Fifa boss Infantino said the ninth title by Hearts was a result of hard work, passion and commitment.

“Please allow me to congratulate Hearts of Oak for having been crowned 2020/21 champions of Ghana!

“This title is, no doubt, the result of hard work, passion and commitment, and everyone at the club can be proud of this important achievement.

“I would be grateful if you could please extend my congratulations to everybody involved, whom I encourage to continue working with team spirit, passion and determination.”

Infantino also thanked the GFA for their efforts in promoting the development of football.

“On behalf of the international football community, I finally take this opportunity to thank you and your Association for your contribution to the development and the prosperity of football in Ghana, in your region and around the world.”

“I look forward to seeing you again soon”, he added.

Hearts of Oak registered the most wins – 17, 10 draws and 7 defeats, totalling 61 points from 34 matches. They scored 45 goals and conceded 23 in the process.
