2020/21 MTN FA Cup: Big boys Hearts, AshGold, Medeama book last-8 tickets

Six more teams – including record winners Hearts of Oak – on Wednesday booked their slots in the quarterfinals of the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup.

At Dawu, the Phobians ended the fairytale of Young Wise FC who had eliminated Nania FC, Okyeman Planners and Premier League side WAFA SC.

In-form Daniel Afriyie Barnieh won and converted a penalty in the 69th minute to hand Hearts a 1-0 victory.

Aduana FC were stunned 4-2 at their own backyard – the Nana Agyeman Badu I Stadium at Dormaa – by fellow Premier League side AshantiGold.

The other all-Premier League fixture between Medeama SC and Great Olympics had to be decided by penalty shootouts after a barren stalemate in regulation time. The Mauve and Yellows edged it 5-3.

Accra-based Division Two side Attram DeVisser Soccer Academy scored three minutes from time to cancel out a Jonah Attuquaye 10th-minute lead for Legon Cities before going on to eliminate the Premier League side 5-4 on penalties at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Top Talents recovered to edge Tamale City FC in a five-goal thriller split 3-2 at Kintampo.

At Nduom Stadium, Stephen Asare gave Division One side the lead in the second half. But Geoffrey Acheampong averted a shock home defeat for Elmina Sharks who went on to book their last-8 ticket with a 3-2 penalty shootout win.

On Tuesday, holders Asante Kotoko won 2-1 against city rivals Asokwa Deportivo to progress to the last-8.

The final quarterfinal ticket will be decided when Kintampo FC and Berekum Chelsea face off on Thursday.
