Egypt’s Al Ahly thrashed South African side Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 in the final of the 2020/21 Caf Champions League to win their 10th title.
The record winners produced a master class second-half performance at the Stade Mohammed V in Morocco, Casablanca on Saturday night for Pitso Mosimane to win his third title as a coach against the first-time finalists.
The Egyptians made full use of a Kaizer Chiefs red card in first-half injury time to make light works of the South Africans.
The Amakhosi started the game as the better side in the early minutes and got the game’s first shot on target through Nurkovic.
Pitso Mosimane’s side grew into the game and controlled play in the first half, creating a number of chances but could not utilize any of them.
23-year-old South African defender Happy Mashiane was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Akram Tawfik. He was initially shown a yellow but was given the marching orders after a VAR review.
Al Ahly quickly began to exploit the numbers advantage at the start of the second half, going at Chiefs from the start.
The Red Devils got their noses in front through Mohammed Sherif, who got beyond the defence before calmly chipping past onrushing Akpeyi after picking up a Tawfik perfect through ball.
Mohamed Afsha curled in the second for Al Ahly just inside the box after making some space for himself, the result of beautiful exchanges with teammates in the 65th minute.
Amr El Solia produced a good bend on the ball with the inside of his right foot after being teed up exquisitely by Sherif’s backheel in the 74th minute.
The goals from Sherif, Afsha, and Solia were enough to ensure Al Ahly returned to Egypt with their second consecutive Caf Champions League title.
