Bernard Tekpetey permanently joins Ludogorets from Schalke

Ghana forward, Bernard Tekpetey has joined PFC Ludogorets 1945 on a permanent deal from relegated German Bundesliga club Schalke 04.

The 23-year-old had initially moved to Bulgaria on a two-year loan deal last summer, where featured in 25 league games and scored twice in their title-winning campaign.

The Bulgarian champions have now agreed to sign him permanently, Schalke 04 have announced on Tuesday.

Tekpetey’s contract with Schalke would have run until 2023.

“This transfer makes a lot of sense for all parties. Bernard has settled in really well at Ludogorets and won the title with them last season, ” said Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder.

“Letting him go permanently was also beneficial to us financially. We would like to wish Bernard all the best for the future.”

Tekpetey joined Schalke’s U23s in 2016 from Ghana-based UniStar Soccer Academy and went on to play twice in the Bundesliga and once in the UEFA Europa League for the first team.

During his five years under contract at the club, he also spent time on loans at SCR Altach, SC Paderborn, and Fortuna Düsseldorf, as well as at Ludogorets.
