Karela United moved into third place thanks to a 2-0 victory over Legon Cities on match-day 29 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.
Umar Basiru and Richard Berko netted in either half to ensure all three points at stake stayed at the Crosby Awuah Memorial (CAM) Park.
It was the visitors who broke away on the counter but could not score before Karela goalkeeper Richard Baidoo swiftly turned defence into attack with his ball distribution.
And striker Richard Berko was subsequently brought down for a penalty in his attempt to score at the other end by Cities shot-stopper Sylvester Sackey.
Midfielder Umar Basiru stepped up for the spot-kick and expertly converted to give Karela the lead in the 28th minute.
The ‘Passion and Pride’ were denied from scoring more by the heroics of the Legon Cities goalkeeper.
Coach Evans Adotey’s men eventually succeeded in cushioning their lead in the 83rd minute. It was the turn of Berko to score as he pounced on an ineffective clearance and beat his marker before slotting home.
Karela United finished the game 2-0 to return to winning ways after two draws and a defeat in their last three league games. They are now in third position with 46 points.
Legon Cities, meanwhile, stay 9th with 38 points from 29 matches.
Goalkeeper Sylvester Sackey was adjudged NASCO man-of-the-match.
