Olympics throw away two-goal lead, fall 3-2 to Aduana

Title chasers, Great Olympics let slip a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at home to Aduana FC in the final game of match-day 24 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Thursday night.

The Dade Boys were expecting to keep up the chase on leaders Asante Kotoko who had opened a 4-point gap earlier in the day but the visitors had another mind as they recorded a remarkable comeback win at the Accra Sports Stadium.

While dominating, Maxwell Quaye opened the scoring in the 35th minute after Aduana goalkeeper Massawudu Abdulai failed to deal with his shot from just outside the box.

Olympics then shot themselves into a two-goal lead in the second half.

Giant striker Abdul Manan Mudasiru came off the bench and moments later, arrived at far-post and tapped the ball into rooftop in the 57th minute.

The Fire club quickly responded and put themselves back in contention through winger Sam Adams who halved the deficit with a hit through the legs of Olympics goalkeeper Stephen Kwaku in the 60th minute.

Skipper Bright Adjei grabbed the equalizer with a beautiful finish five minutes from time.

The remarkable turnaround was complete when a marked Sam Adams quickly raced to steer Fataw Abdulman’s free-kick past goalkeeper Kwaku at near-post on the stroke of full time.

With the 3-2 victory, Aduana FC climb to 7th position on 37 points while Great Olympics now find themselves in third place with 40 points after 24 matches.
