Mujaid Sadick: Ghanaian-Nigerian defender joining KRC Genk

Belgian giants KRC Genk have reached a deal to sign defender Mujaid Sadick Aliu from Spanish side Deportivo de La Coruña.

The centre-back was linked to Schalke 04 but their relegation from the German Bundesliga swayed the youngster’s interest to the Jupiler Pro League outfit.

Mujaid is reported to be leaving Deportivo for an amount close to two million euros.

He has one year left on his contract and to prevent losing him for free in June 2022, the club – which is in the Spanish lower-tier – chose to do negotiate an immediate transfer.

Born in Logroño in northern Spain, to Nigerian and Ghanaian parents, the 21-year-old has the potential of sparking an international tug-of-war between the two West African rivals and the European heavyweights who have already capped him at the U-16 and U-18 levels.

In the ongoing season, Mujaid Sadick has been a constant feature for Deportivo bar one match when he had to serve a suspension for card accumulation.
