Gyamfi brace fires leaders Kotoko to 2-1 win over Dwarfs

Emmanuel Gyamfi fired Asante Kotoko to victory with a brace as they rallied from behind to beat Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 at Len clay Stadium Thursday afternoon.

Kotoko responded well after conceding from a vigorous Dennis Korsah strike in the 25th minute of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier league match-day 24 fixture.

Mariano Baretto made two changes for his lineup in last Sunday’s victory over Dreams, bringing in Patrick Asmah for Augustine Okrah and Andy Kumi for Micheal Vinicius.

Dwarfs had usual first-choice keeper Razak Issah in the post, skipper Korsah, George Asamoah, Simon Martey and skillful winger Elia Junior all available.

The first half began with the Porcupines threatening for an early lead but they struggled to locate Andy Kumi up front.

It was through the flanks that Kotoko looked good. Christopher Nettey and Imoro Ibrahim made daring runs into the Dwarfs half, but the finishing was no great.

The visitors, despite it being a few occasions, had their moments. They netted from a shot freekick pass in the middle of the Kotoko half via Korsah’s powerful left-footed effort.

After conceding, Kotoko’s skipper brought his side back in the game.

In the 30th minute, Gyamfi found himself unmarked in the Dwarfs 18-yard box and calmly headed in Nettey’s excellent cross from the right. 1-1 at halftime.

The second half started with the league leaders showing their eagerness to extend their lead at the top of the league standings.

They pressed Dwarfs in the middle, forcing the visitors to sit deep but an unpardonable error by goalkeeper Razak Isaah cost his side.

The shot-stopper failed to hold on to a feeble cross from Osman Ibrahim and Gyamfi arrived to poke into an empty net in the 52nd minute.

The Reds could have extended the scoreline but were surprisingly wasteful in attack and only held on till full time.

Asante Kotoko head to Sogakope on match-day 25 against Liberty Professionals.

On the other hand, 13th-placed Dwarfs will host Dreams FC at Cape Coast.
