#GPLwk25: WAFA beat Legon Cities for fourth win in five games

WAFA SC continued their upward surge in the 2020/1 Ghana Premier League standings with a fourth victory in five games after beating Legon Cities 1-0 on Saturday.

The Academy Boys welcomed the Royals to their Sogakope base in a keenly-contested match-day 25 fixture.

In terms of dominance, it was a match of two halves with coach Prosper Narteh’s boys conquering the opening half with what mattered most – the only goal of the encounter.

Cities failed to convert a dangerous free-kick from which WAFA broke away on a counter through Godwin Agbevor.

The young winger, who was playing more centrally this time, raced past a couple of markers and laid a through pass to Justus Torsutsey who skipped past Cities centre-back, Issaka Mohammed, before beating goalkeeper Sackey in the 32nd minute.

Chasing the equalizer, Legon Cities – who have been flirting with the relegation zone almost all season – dominated the second half but the likes of Richmond Antwi and Jonah Attuquaye could not bury the chances created.

Star striker Asamoah Gyan came on for the stoppage time and nearly snatched a late equalizer as his free-kick strike, which left WAFA keeper Osei Bonsu rooted to his spot, narrowly missed the target.

Legon Cities attacker Jonah Attuquaye was named NASCO man-of-the-match.

WAFA SC now move up to 38 points from 25 matches
