Black Meteors to face Japan Olympic team in double-header friendlies

Ghana have accepted an invitation to a double-header international friendly matches with the Japan Olympic football team.

New coach Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabin will lead his Under-23s, the Black Meteors for the first time in the games scheduled for June 4 and 8 in Tokyo.

For Fabin, it is the beginning of a new era of rebuilding the team after failing to secure a ticket to the Olympic Games when the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations which served as a qualifying tournament was held in 2019.

Hosts Japan will use the two games to test their readiness as they face an African opposition in South Africa in the opening match of the Olympic Games football competition on July 22.

It was the South Africans who denied the Black Meteors a return to the Olympics through a penalty shootout victory in the third-place play-off and final ticket decider at the U-23 Afcon in Egypt.
