AshantiGold beat Olympics 1-0

AshantiGold bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over title-chasing Great Olympics Sunday afternoon.

A 55th-minute penalty by Stephen Owusu Banahene saw the Miners claim all three points in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League match-day 25 fixture at Len Clay Stadium.

The hosts were awarded the spot-kick after skipper Amos Addai was brought down in the box Olympics penalty area.

The 1-0 result brought to an end AshantiGold’s three-match winless streak, which included defeats to Elmina Sharks and Berekum Chelsea as well as a draw against Eleven Wonders in between.

Olympics, on the other hand, have also suffered a huge setback in their race for the title as the Obuasi defeat becomes the second in a row after the shock loss to Aduana FC in midweek.

The victory sees AshantiGold leapfrog Bechem United into 9th position on 34 points, six off Olympics who also drop to 4th spot.
