Maxwell Konadu gets Black Starlets head coach job

Coach Maxwell Konadu has been handed a return to national team duties as the new boss of the Ghana male U-17s, the Black Starlets.

The last appointments in January 2020 saw the ex-international lose his role as head coach of the Black Stars ‘B’, allowing him to concentrate on his job with Asante Kotoko.

But Konadu has been unattached since December last year following a sack by the Porcupines.

In recent weeks, Konadu has been working as one of the coaching instructors for the Ghana Football Association. He has now been handed another responsibility of leading the Starlets team.

The 48-year-old replaces Ben Fokuo who last week was appointed as Black Princesses head coach.

Maxwell Konadu is a Ghana Premier League-winning coach with Asante Kotoko in 2012. Prior to that, he had stints with Wa All Stars (now Legon Cities) in the 2009/10 season, Fetteh Feyenoord Academy (now WAFA) and the defunct Red Bull Academy at Sogakope.

Maxwell Konadu won Gold at the All Africa Games in 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique. He is a former assistant coach of the Black Stars under Kwasi Appiah.

Winfred Dormon and Ignatius Osei-Fosu have also been appointed as two assistant coaches at the Ghana U-17s.
