#GPLwk21: Four-star Dwarfs batter Olympics

High-flying Great Olympics slumped to a surprise 4-1 defeat against Ebusua  Dwarfs in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 21 visit to the Cape Coast Stadium Saturday night.

After seeing leaders Asante Kotoko lose at home to Medeama in the afternoon kickoff, the Dade Boys had hoped to regain top spot with a win on the road.

But the Crabs had other ideas, ensuring all three points stayed at Cape Coast to welcome the return of their fans into the stands.

Leventius Attur sent early signals after 5 minutes when he hit the crossbar with a free-kick that had Olympics goalkeeper Benjamin Asare completely beaten.

Skipper for the day, Simon Martey shot Dwarfs in front with a strike from outside the box which caught the visitors’ keeper off guard in the 26th minute.

Dwarfs made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute, Moro Sumaila headed the ball into the path of youngster Elliah Kofi Junior who managed to beat his marker before hitting past goalkeeper Asare.

Coach Ernest Thompson-Quartey’s charges returned to the second half on the front foot and increased their lead to 3-0 within three minutes.

The goal came off a Levintus Arthur free-kick was well-connected by a header from an unmarked Michael Ohene Asamoah.

Elliah Kofi Junior could have registered his brace in the 70th minute when he stole the ball from the legs of Sekyere but the attacker disappointingly shot into the body of the Olympics keeper.

Enock Afram managed to score the fourth goal in the 88th minute despite a poor first touch.

Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako scored a consolation goal for his side with a powerful strike inside time added on.

The 4-1 victory sees Dwarfs increase their points tally to 27 but trail Olympics by a difference of seven after 21 matches.

Ebusua Dwarfs captain and right-back Simon Martey was adjudged NASCO man-of-the-match.
