Karela United were held to a 1-1 draw by AshantiGold at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park on match-day 18 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.
Seth Osei Kwadwo’s early strike was seconds away from granting the visitors an away triumph till Umar Bashiru scored on the 94th minute to rescue a point for the Passioners.
The home side began the match brightly but struggled to break the deadlock.
As they searched for the lead, Ashantigold found spaces in their defence to punish them through Osei Kwadwo.
Ashantigold ended the first half in the lead and showed solidity in defence for the second half.
Karela put up a good midfield display to control the game and through one of these runs, they were awarded a penalty.
Up stepped Diawisie Taylor to draw his side level on the scoresheet but the league’s top scorer had his effort saved by Kofi Osei.
The Passioners regrouped once again to continue their pursuit for the leveller and they finally found it in Umar Bashiru’s effort late on.
Now they lie second behind Great Olympics and will brace themselves for a trip to Inter Allies on match-day 19.
Ashantigold have a top opponent in Hearts of Oak at Obuasi in their next fixture in hopes of moving from the 10th slot.
