‘Adebayor wanted to be close to his family and girlfriend’

Danish second-tier side, HB Køge have cited a strong need for struggling Victorien Adebayor to be close to his family and girlfriend as part of reasons for releasing the Niger international from their fold.

Køge, Thursday, announced reaching a loan arrangement for Adebayor to return to the Ghana Premier League (GPL),  exactly five months after signing him from partner club Inter Allies.

The 24-year-old is however joining Legon Cities for the rest of the year.

Adebayor arrived with a huge reputation after scoring 19 goals in 25 appearances from two truncated GPL seasons. But he struggled to strive in Denmark.

Speaking on the decision to farm Adebayor out, HB Køge director Per Rud said the club just set out to “meet the wishes” of the player.

“…For personal reasons, he has a strong need to be close to his family for the time to come. We have listened to that.

“We have come to the conclusion that if he does not thrive here because he does not have “himself with”, it is the right solution,” he stated.

“Adebayor’s first time in Denmark has not been easy. There has been corona. The paperwork with visas and work permits has been a long time coming. We have not yet succeeded in bringing his girlfriend to Denmark,” Rud added.

With a return to familiar grounds, Victorien Adebayor will be hoping to shake off a torrid spell with a return to form to help 13th-placed Legon Cities move up the league ladder.
