20 home-based Black Stars named for Uzbekistan friendly

Home-based Black Stars coach, Ibrahim Tanko has named a squad of 20 players to face Uzbekistan in an international friendly scheduled for Friday, March 26.

The match comes upon a request from the Uzbekistan Football Association who are preparing their senior national team for the 2022 Fifa World Cup & the 2023 AFC Asian Cup joint qualifiers.

“The GFA has therefore decided to honour the match with a chunk of the home-based players who have been preparing in Accra for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as the Association intends to utilize fully, the opportunity in the March FIFA window with this useful exercise.

“The team will also use the match as a dress rehearsal for the 2021 Wafu Cup of Nations in Nigeria and the upcoming CHAN qualifiers.

“As a result, coach of the home-based Black Stars, Ibrahim Tanko has named a 20-man squad for the friendly. With a number of these players currently training with the Black Stars in Accra, he has decided to make some few additions for the game,” explained the Ghana FA in a squad announcement Thursday night.

Samuel Ashie Quaye, Percious Boah and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh of the victorious Black Satellites team have been drafted in.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Attah has also been called up likewise Vision FC goalkeeper William Essu and Dreams FC attacker Agyenim Boateng.

The home-based Black Stars contingent will depart Accra for the match on Monday, March 22.

The match with the Asians comes off at the Central Stadium in Namangan on Friday, March 26, 2021. Kickoff is at 13:00 GMT.
