Odartey Lamptey steps in as interim Elmina Sharks coach

Elmina Sharks have announced that former Aston Villa midfielder Nii Odartey Lamptey has taken the reins of the club as head coach on an interim basis.

Lamptey is holding down the fort following the departure of coach Yaw Acheampong with two other assistants – Felix Aboagye and Nana Mbrah on Thursday.

Per a Sharks statement on Friday, February 26, the arrangement with the 46-year-old Caf License A holder takes effect immediately.

“The management of Elmina Sharks has appointed Nii Odartey Lamptey as the interim coach effective today.

“The former Ghana international brings his rich experience to the Fearsome Sharks family and is expected to take charge of the team’s training immediately.

“The management of Elmina Sharks is excited to welcome Nii Odartey Lamptey to the Fearsome Sharks family and wish him all the best,” it read.

Elmina Sharks becomes the second Premier League club in Odartey Lamptey’s managerial career after sharing the role with current Black Stars coach CK Akonnor at Sekondi Eleven Wise (now in Division One) back in 2009.

Lamptey has been concentrating on coaching at his Glow-Lamp Academy over the past years.
