Ishmael Yartey joins FC Haka for 2021 season

Former Ghana U-17 star, Ishmael Yartey has joined FC Haka in the Finnish top-tier.

The Veikkausliga side announced signing the 31-year-old for the 2021 season on Wednesday,

The left-winger is not new to Fininish football, having previously played for KPV where he scored six goals in 11 Veikkausliiga matches in 2019.

“FC Haka has signed a one-year player deal with Ghanaian Ishmael Yartey.

“The 31-year-old attacking head player has an extensive international career and is also familiar to Finns from KPV’s shirt. At the same time, he is a season card sponsor for the 2021 season!,” read portions of a club announcement.

“Without the support of the season ticket holders, we would not have been able to acquire him,” Haka’s CEO Olli Huttunen also stated.

Commenting on his move, Yartey said talks with former Tottenham star – now manager – Teemu Taino made it easier to decide on joining the club.

“One of the main reasons why I chose Haka was the conversation I had with Teemu Tainio, which left a positive picture. He called me and inquired about my willingness to join the team.

“Now I’m here and happy about it! I look forward to helping the team achieve their goals.

He added: “I’m going to work hard and I am ready to play the role, what the coach wants.

“Personally, I aim to play regularly, and I help the team with my goals and assists. I will adopt the team’s style of play and play for the team, the man promises.”

FC Haka become Yartey’s 13th club  since joining SL Benfica in 2009. His nomadic career has seen him play in countries like Portugal, Switzerland, France and the USA, among others. Most recently, he played in Saudi Arabia.
