Hearts blow two-goal lead but win 5-goal thriller against Dwarfs

Isaac Mensah came off the bench to hit a stoppage-time winner as Hearts of Oak beat Ebusua Dwarfs 3-2 on match-day 15 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The Phobians gave up a two-goal lead but their blushes were saved by substitute teenage forward Mensah at the Accra Sports Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Striker Victor Aidoo registered a brace for Hearts with powerful penalty strikes in the 8th and 21st minutes.

Both penalties were won by slippery winger Razak who was hacked down on both occasions by goalkeeper Razak Issah and defender Emmanuel Anaful.

Dwarfs would not relent and managed to halve the deficit just before the interval.

And they got back into the contest aided by a goalkeeping error by Richard Attah who failed to grab a feeble strike by Moro Sumaila.

Dwarfs nearly levelled the scoring but a timely goal-line clearance by Raddy Ovouka ensured Moro Abubakar’s header did not go in.

But captain Dennis Korsah tied it in the 76th — converting from the spot after Michael Asamoah drew a penalty from Hearts right-back Larry Sumaila.

It looked like both sides would settle for a 2-2 draw but then came a late twist.

18-year-old Isaac Mensah, who had come in for Patrick Razak, snatched the three points for the Phobians after a half-turn two minutes into stoppage time.

The 3-2 win is a first for Hearts in their last five games – shooting them two places up to 9th in the league standings with 20 points from 14 games.
