Safiu saves Swedish Superettan status for Trelleborgs

Ghana forward Fatawu Safiu scored the winning penalty as Trelleborgs FF escaped relegation from the  Swedish second-flight on Sunday.

Trelleborgs will now feature in the Superettan league once again in the 2021 season.

The Blues had recorded a 1-1- result in the opening leg of the relegation playoffs away at Brommapojkarna.

Back at home, Trelleborgs took the lead in the 27th minute through Mattias Hakansson and were cruising to victory until the first minute of added time when Alexander Nilsson equalized for Brommapojkarna to force the game into penalty shootouts.

And Fatawu stepped up to hit the match-winner as the kicks ended 4-1 in favour of Trelleborgs.

The former Asante Kotoko forward has been a talisman for his side, netting 6 goals and assisting twice in 28 games.
