Ajax not taking any risks with Kudus, return delayed

A return for Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus before the end of the 2020 calendar year is off, Ajax coach Erik ten Hag has indicated.

The 20-year-old suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee on his Uefa Champions League debut against Liverpool in October.

Kudus was to be sidelined until early 2021 after a correctional surgery but he showed quick recovery and returned to training on December 14.

The summer signing, who enjoyed out a promising start to his life with the Amsterdam-based club, was to return to match action on Wednesday when they visit Willem II in their final game of the year.

However, trainer ten Hag indicated that the almost completely recovered Kudus will not be involved on Wednesday, stressing that Ajax won’t rush his comeback.

“He didn’t feel completely 100 percent yet. That is why we have decided not to take any chances with him,” he stated on Tuesday.

Mohammed Kudus joined Ajax from Danish top-tier side FC Nordjaelland.
