A 50% fit Gyan will make a difference – Bashir Hayford

Asamoah Gyan is yet to rise to the expected level in terms of his form since joining Legon Cities as a free agent.

The former Black Stars captain has played three matches for the Royals in the ongoing 2020/21 Ghana Premier League (GPL), all substitute appearances.

Gyan is yet to score in any neither the side from open play and his coach, Bashir Hayford says he is working on the veteran to hit form.

“This is the fifth game and they [Legon cities] have not converted even one ball into the net.

“And that is what I identified. Immediately I entered the team, I told them we don’t have finishing.

“Asamoah Gyan, even if I have 50% of his form, I would not have a problem.

“His form is completely down. And we have to work on him because according to him, for about eleven months, he has not played a ball.

“I say if he picks up 50% of his performance he will make a difference,” Hayford stated in a pitchside interview.

Asamoah Gyan made his Legon Cities debut against Medeama SC on match-day three after coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute.

His second game was a match-day four trip to Dreams FC which ended barren.

Against Asante Kotoko on Friday night, the Ghana all-time top scorer got 30 minutes of game time under his belt, replacing a misfiring Raphael Ocloo on the hour mark – a game the Royals lost 1-0.

Legon Cities are 14th on the league table with 3 points from five matches. They will next play Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs on match-day six at the Accra Sports Stadium.
