PHOTO: France-born Enock Kwateng joins Black Stars camp

France-born defender Enock Kwateng has joined the Black Stars camp preparing for the international friendly games with Mali and Qatar.

The right-back, who plays for Girondins Bordeaux, is a product of the French football system and has played for the national team at all age levels – U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19 and U-20.

Last month, Kwateng opted to declare for Ghana, giving Black Stars coach CK Akonnor to consider him for call-ups.

The new Fifa nationality rules allowed him to apply for a switch to Ghana as he has never represented France at the senior level.

Initially, the 23-year-old was not considered for a maiden call-up when Akonnor named his 23-man squad for this month’s international friendlies.

But Kwateng, appears to have a chance to make his Ghana debut quite early following the forced withdrawals of players like Jeffrey Schlupp, Mohammed Kudus, Richard Ofori, Lumor Agbenyenu and John Antwi.

Per Footy-Ghana.com observation, Kwateng has been at the Black Stars camp in Turkey, at least, since Tuesday, October 6 but the Ghana FA has conspicuously been silent about his presence in their periodic updates.

Kwateng together with Tariqe Fosu, Joseph Paintsil and Caleb Ekuban have come in as late invitees.

The Black Stars face Mali this Friday, October 9, at Aslan Zaki Dermirci Sports Complex in Antalya. Kickoff at 17:00 GMT.

In three days, they also play 2022 Fifa World Cup hosts Qatar with kickoff at 15:30 GMT.
