Official: Empem Dacosta signs for AshantiGold till 2023

Defender Empem Dacosta has signed for AshantiGold after leaving regional rivals Asante Kotoko.

About a fortnight ago, the hard-tackling centre-back – who featured only thrice for Kotoko in the cancelled 2019/20 Ghana Premier League – was released from his 10-month old contract after being declared surplus to requirement by head coach Maxwell Konadu.

Dacosta, however, did not lack suitors as the Miners almost immediately moved to sign him most especially for their impending 2020/21 Caf Confederation Cup campaign.

On Tuesday, September 22, the 23-year-old put pen to paper on a three-year contract with AshantiGold.

Empem Dacosta becomes the latest acquisition of what will become the new-look AshantiGold side under Italian trainer Roberto Landi.

While the Len Clay Stadium outfit has seen the departure of a lot influential first teamrrs, the club has made some signings to fill the void created.

Burkinabe goalkeeper Aboubacar Sawadogo, Yaw Arnol, Matthew Agama, Boadu Dacosta, Michael Enu, Stephen Bentil have all been signed by the four-time Ghanaian champions while experienced duo Nathaniel Asamoah and Hans Kwofie who joined not long before the past season was cancelled due to COVID-19, will now get the chance to start their respective stints in Obuasi.
