Jonah Osabutey joins OH Leuven on loan

Ghana forward Jonah Osabutey will continue life in Belgian football for another season after completing a loan move from Werder Bremen to Jupiler Pro League side OH Leuven.

The 21-year-old spent the 2019/20 season at Royal Excel Mouscron where he scored five goals, made four assists in 22 games, and was named player of the season.

“With Jonah Osabutey, we add extra qualities to our core. He showed his potential last season and we hope he can develop further in this campaign.

“Osabutey has an interesting profile that we did not yet have at our core and we are therefore happy that he chose OH Leuven,” said Wim De Corte, technical director for OH Leuven.

OH Leuven negotiated a purchase option in the loan deal for Osabutey who gets to team up with compatriot Kamal Issah at the club.

Jonah Osabutey first arrived in Europe from Ghana Division One side Tema Youth FC in 2017. A knee injury, however, slowed him down in his first season with Werder Bremen. But in the 2018/19 campaign, the Ghana youth international quickly became a regular in the Werder Bremen II side. In 27 league games, he managed to score 12 times.
