Eric Kwakwa: Midfielder urges clubs to act swiftly in player contract renewal

Medeama SC midfielder Eric Kwakwa has urged clubs to react with alacrity when dealing with player contract extensions.

His comments come against the backdrop of statements that players deliberately reject contract renewal from Ghanaian clubs.

Kwakwa, who re-joined Medeama in 2019, wants clubs to approach player contract with the necessary speed it deserves.

“Players don’t reject contract renewal deliberately from clubs.

“The club owners and administrators know a lot about player contracts and they have to help matters in this regard.

“The clubs must not wait till a player’s contract runs out or is almost elapsing before they begin negotiations.

“With a year or two for a player’s contract to run out, clubs must approach them as quickly as possible for renewal.

“If clubs are really interested in the player, they must approach him for negotiations rather than wait for the latter parts of his contract,” Kwakwa told Akoma FM.

The 25-year-old spent four seasons with Medeama SC with a loan spell in between those years at Icelandic club Vikingur Olafsvik.

AshantiGold are the biggest casualties who have lost some key players in the last few months.

Shafiu Mumuni, Frank Boateng, Eric Donkor, James Akaminko and Latif Anabila have left the Miners as free agents with Hearts of Oak losing Joseph Esso to Dreams FC.
