Black Stars: Akonnor justifies Eugene Ansah call-up

Eugene Ansah’s call-up into the Black Stars on Friday by head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has attracted backlash from several football pundits and fans.

Many have questioned the invite as there are a number of Ghanaian strikers with better numbers in Europe than the Hapoel Shmona forward.

However, Akonnor pinpoints the player’s consistency in attacking plays.

“I like players who can confuse defenders at a certain moment of the game. Someone who can create chances and score as well.

“He’s that kind of player. We like players who are constant in that sense. Consistent attacking players in a game.

“I know there are others we have to give chances. But there are two games and we will assess all the lads and see if they are good to stay.”

Eugene Ansah netted 5 times in 27 appearances for his side last season.

His recent goal came in a 2-0 over Ashdod. Two matches this season, one goal.
