Thomas Boakye scored to help in-form Halmstads BK move level on points atop the 2020 Swedish Superettan after beating leaders Degerfors 2-0 on the road Saturday.
The Ghanaian winger, who was making his seventh start this season, gave Halmstads the lead on 19 minutes when he timely met a cross from the with a diving header from close range.
The goal is Boakye’s third in 11 appearances in the 15-game old Swedish second-tier league this term.
Skipper Andreas Johansson made it 2-0 following another good cross from a corner kick in the 73rd minute. The tall defender was rightly placed as the ball fell his way after a scramble in the air and he made no mistake in doubling the advantage with a simple finish for the visitors at Stora Valla.
Halmstads resisted Degerfors’ comeback attempt and held on to win 2-0. The two teams are now level on points – 31 – at the halfway stage of the 2020 Superettan. But Halmstads stay second due to inferior goal difference.
Compatriot and striker Sadat Karim was restricted to bench duties the entire duration of the game while Joseph Baffo enjoyed full throttle as Boakye did.
