Turkish Super Lig: Afriyie Acquah and Bernard Mensah end season relegated

Ghana’s Afriyie Acquah and Bernard Mensah have suffered relegation with their respective clubs at the end of the 2019/20 Turkish Super Lig.

Acquah’s Yeni Malatyaspor confirmed their demotion on Saturday after succumbing to a 1-0 loss at home to Gaziantep.

The Black Stars midfielder, however, missed the match-day squad.

The 27-year-old, who joined Malatyaspor in summer 2019, featured 27 times for the side in the Super Lig and scored one goal.

Bernard Mensah, who is linked with a move away from the Kayseri-based club, was also unavailable for the final game of the season due to suspension. Kayserispor lost 2-1 at home to Trabzonspor. However, the 25-year-old completed his season with 5 goals in 25 league appearances.

Both Yeni Malatyaspor and Kayserispor were already in the relegation zone ahead of the matches in week 34 and they needed to win their games to survive in the top-tier league.

But having lost their games, they joined Ankaragucu in the second-tier TFF First League next season.

Ankargucu were already relegated from the Super Lig and the three teams at the bottom collected 32 points each in the 2019/20 Super Lig season.
