Steffen Nkansah leaves promoted Eintracht Braunschweig

German 2. Bundesliga returnees, Eintracht Braunschweig have declined to exercise their contract extension option for German defender of Ghanaian descent Steffen Nkansah.

The 24-year-old centre-back, who can also thrive in midfield, played a key role in the side’s promotion from the German third tier – scoring twice in 23 appearances.

But Braunschweig have decided against keeping him after his three-year contract expired.

A club statement on Friday said: “The contracts of Steffen Nkansah and Robin Becker, which expired after the last game of the season in Meppen, will not be extended.”

The Sporting Director Peter Vollmann further explained:

“Steffen and Robin were important components of our team and have a share in the success. With the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, we want to change our large squad and reorient ourselves for these positions in the future.

“We thank them both for their commitment in blue and yellow and wish them all the best for their sporting and private future.”
